Naushad is a living legend as far as Hindi film music is
concerned. Naushad was honoured with 13th Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1982 for
1981 for his outstanding contribution to cause of Indian Cinema. Born on
25th December 1919 at Lucknow, Naushad was crazy about films from a very
young age and more so he was attracted to the magic of the music made in the
'pit' by the musicians to enhance the picture displayed on the screen. It
was this attraction towards music and magic of movies that Naushad took a
job in a music store repairing harmoniums He had his training as a classical
musician, his first job was as a piano and harmonium player in a theatrical
company.
